The "Battered-Conservative" Syndrome
Look how sincere he is!
Deep down, I know he's gentle.
If I marry him, I can love him into changing.
He promised he'd go to counseling.
If he wears the tokens of affection I give him, he must believe in their intended meaning.
"It" has only happened a few times.
Besides, it's my fault.
If I'm careful not to provoke him, it'll never happen again.
I could do a lot worse.
The other guy I dated, actually threatened me.
But John promised "it" would never happen again.
He only gets agitated if I bring up certain topics.
If we "have less intensity" on those issues like he wants, there will never be a problem.
People tell me I'm "too clingy" on one issue.
If I just "give him his space" he'll do the right thing.
He uses my name when he brags to his friends.
I'm getting older, this might be my last chance.
I can't make it on my own.
I need his influence and his resources.
He's more popular than that other guy who proposed.
He's more exciting too.
That other guy was such a nerd.
I don't trust anyone who puts me on a pedestal.
So what if John has a history of abusing other women.
He promised he'd take care of me.
Besides, nobody's perfect.
I want somebody who's a bad-boy "maverick" who holds my interest.
He doesn't "wear his religion on his sleeve" like that other preachy guy.
I have my own charm.
When I turn it on, he won't ever even think of getting rough again.
This time it'll be different.
? ? ?
What would Ann Landers or Dear Abby have told this misguided woman?
YOU SCHMUCK!!!
Get out before it's too late!
Look at your self-esteem.
Go back and find the guy who might not be the B.M.O.C.,
but who treats you well!
